Road Agent Scott Bailey presented the Town of Lyme’s proposed 2026 highway budget at the Budget Committee meeting on Oct. 15, reporting several modest cost increases and the return of roadside mowing to the operating budget.
Bailey said the Road Agent salary line was increased by $1,000 and the Culverts line rose because material prices have gone up. Contracted services also increased. He told the committee that roadside mowing was added back into the budget this year at $28,620. Bailey said the town will begin implementing extended warranties on all highway vehicles it purchases to help manage future repair costs; the maintenance line remains the same because only one vehicle is on the replacement cycle now.
Committee members discussed the needs of the Vehicle Capital Reserve Fund and the Heavy Equipment Funds for 2026, considering replacement timing and funding levels. No formal vote on the highway budget or capital reserve levels took place at the meeting. The committee approved minutes from Sept. 17 with amendments and adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
