Lyme budget committee reviews proposed police budget as telephone costs rise

Police Chief Swett presented the Town of Lyme’s proposed 2026 police budget at the Budget Committee meeting on Oct. 15, saying most line items are unchanged from last year’s voted budget.
Chief Swett said the Uniforms and Equipment line decreased after a one-time increase last year to outfit two new officers, and the Computer Hardware and Software allocation was reduced. He said the Telephone and Communications line was increased to reflect higher rates charged by the telephone provider.
Former Police Chief Shaun O’Keefe provided background on prior budgets to help the committee understand recent changes and one-time expenses that had driven last year’s increases.
Committee members did not take a formal vote on the police budget at the meeting; the committee moved on to review the highway budget and capital reserve needs. The committee approved minutes from the Sept. 17 meeting and adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
