Advisory committee proposes single director for library and community center; board debates education requirement

Some favored requiring a bachelor's degree with MLS preferred; others favored listing education as preferred and allowing significant relevant experience and certification to qualify in order to avoid unduly narrowing the candidate pool. One member suggested language that permits a substitute of relevant experience plus certification for an educational requirement.
Members also recommended the advisory committee continue to exist as a resource for the director and suggested the committee examine hours of operation and programming needs before and after hiring. The board asked staff to finalize language with the advisory committee and advertise the position promptly.
