Oneida County panel unanimously approves 2027 staffing requests for medical examiner and sheriff

The Oneida County Public Safety Committee on July 9 voted 5-0 to approve 2027 staffing requests for the Medical Examiner’s Office and for limited-term (LTE) positions in the Sheriff’s Office, sending the sheriff’s request on to the county budget hearing.
Medical Examiner Cambrya Hurlburt told the committee the office currently has five deputy medical examiners and that the proposed 2027 staffing plan will preserve operational flexibility for investigations and case coverage. A motion to approve the Medical Examiner’s staffing request was offered by Chairperson Russ Fisher, seconded by committee member Debbie Condado, and passed unanimously.
The committee also considered the Sheriff’s Office 2027 LTE staffing request. After discussion, committee member Linnaea Newman moved, and Debbie Condado seconded, a motion to approve the sheriff’s staffing request and forward it to the county budget hearing; the motion passed 5-0.
Clerk of Circuit Court staff presented an annual request for a Ricoh fax/scanner/printer/copier. Chairperson Fisher said the purchase needs an IT compatibility check; no action was taken and Fisher said he would contact Berhle to resolve the compatibility question.
The meeting began at 9:30 a.m. and adjourned at 9:46 a.m. The committee scheduled its next meeting for Aug. 13, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
