Poplar board schedules Board of Review, addresses election-inspection fixes and billing problems

At its April 14 meeting, the Village of Poplar reviewed community clean-up plans, rescheduled the Board of Review and logged minor election-inspection corrections.
Clerk Gina Ormond said spring cleanup day will be Saturday, May 9; Paul Abrahamzon ordered scrap bins and Jeanne Abrahamzon will collect fees. Trustees signed up for cleanup shifts. Ormond said a meeting to adjourn the previously scheduled Board of Review will take place May 12, but because inspections will not be complete the Board of Review is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The clerk reported a surprise inspection from the Wisconsin Election Commission that identified two minor items: the accessible voting machine lacked a sign and an exterior door needs adjustment to reduce resistance for elderly and disabled voters. The minutes record those items as needing attention but describe them as minor.
Treasurer Wendy Lauenstein told the board she had not been receiving some fire-department invoices; vendors contacted the village about late payments. She said some invoices had incorrect billing addresses or altered department names, and noted that bills not routed to the village post office box or not turned in to the clerk cannot be paid in a timely fashion.
In routine business the board approved the March 10, 2026 minutes (motion by Bruce Bergsten; second John Pooler) and authorized payment of March 2026 bills (motion by Dan Bergsten; second Adam DeMeyer). The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m. (motion by Adam DeMeyer; second Kory Gilderman).
