Comfrey council approves memorial donations, equipment actions and community projects in unanimous votes
Summary
At its Oct. 8 meeting, the City Council of Comfrey approved minutes and bills, accepted memorial donations, approved a heating-and-cooling grant contract, accepted a county radios grant, authorized flower pots on Brown Street, and offered a police squad and equipment for sale; all motions carried unanimously.
The City Council of Comfrey met Oct. 8 at the Comfrey Community Center and approved routine business and several grant- and equipment-related items in unanimous votes.
Council member Arnsdorf moved and Council member Redman seconded approval of the Sept. 10 regular meeting minutes and the Sept. 25 special meeting minutes; the motion carried unanimously. Council member Redman moved and Council member Evers seconded approval of bills totaling $166,325.40; that motion carried unanimously. The September financial report was reviewed and approved on a motion by Council member Redman, seconded by Council member Evers.
The council adopted a resolution accepting multiple memorial donations: $1,550 to the fire department, $610 to first responders, $640 to the city (for trees in front of the municipal building), a $10 memorial to the fire department and a $15 memorial to the library from the Idelle Schottle family, plus a $600 donation from the Comfrey Fire Relief Association to first responders. The resolution was moved by Council member Evers and seconded by Council member Redman and carried unanimously.
Council approved a grant contract for the Resilient and Clean Heating and Cooling project covering the municipal building, city office and fire hall; Council member Kastner moved the approval, Council member Redman seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Brown County Emergency Management secured a grant for encrypted radios; the award would provide three encrypted radios for Comfrey’s first responder rig, pumper and rescue rig (grant total $17,061.68) with a $1,198 matching cost to the fire department. Council member Evers moved to accept the grant; Council member Redman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Linda Wallin and Teresa Schumann, representing the Floratennial Garden Club, asked to place eight flower pots on corners along two blocks of Brown Street; the club would maintain the pots and store them in the gazebo over winter. Council member Arnsdorf moved to approve the request; Council member Evers seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The council also decided to offer the police squad and associated equipment for sale, with a starting price of $20,000, in response to interest from the City of Lamberton. Council member Arnsdorf moved the offer; Council member Kastner seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m. on a motion by Council member Arnsdorf, seconded by Council member Evers.
