Community critic says DOE presentation omitted 1989 FBI raid and alleges remaining plutonium in soils

During the public‑comment portion of the Rocky Flats 2025 annual report meeting, Chris Allred of the Rocky Mountain Houston Justice Center criticized the presentation and raised historical and transparency concerns. "I found the introduction to the presentation tonight to be very misleading," Allred said, arguing the timeline omitted the 1989 FBI raid and Rockwell's later guilty plea to environmental crimes.

Allred also asserted that not all weapons‑grade plutonium was removed in 2003 and said plutonium remains in "infinity rooms" at Rocky Flats and in surface soils impacting downwind communities and the wildlife refuge. The meeting’s presenters listened but did not reply during the public comment period; the public comment period was structured so presenters would not engage in discussion during remarks.

DOE/LM and RSI presenters earlier in the meeting described monitoring programs, reported non‑detect results for plutonium and americium in sentinel wells in 2025, and said those analytes were below standards at downstream points of compliance. John Boylan reported that five sentinel wells monitored for plutonium and americium returned non‑detect results in 2025 and that those constituents were below standards at the downstream POC.

The public commenter asked for broader distribution and improved accessibility of meetings and materials. The presenters invited follow‑up questions by email at rfinfo@lm.gov and reminded attendees that the full annual report contains detailed datasets and analyses.
