At the Triton School Corporation meeting, the superintendent presented a comprehensive report on safety, trauma‑informed practices and partnerships intended to strengthen prevention and student supports across the district.
He highlighted several ongoing programs and partnerships: Handle With Care notifications from law‑enforcement contacts to alert schools when a student may need additional supports; district training in TBRI (trust‑based relational intervention); adoption of David Hitaj’s Craftsman with Character initiative for internships and work‑ethic development; and formal partnerships with the Department of Child Services and community mental‑health providers such as the Bowen Center. The superintendent stressed the programs are preventive and supportive—“we don't want the detail, but we just call that an HWC situation” — and said the KC Center and DCS will participate in professional development on Aug. 10.
He described operational systems the district uses: anonymous reporting at the high school, a threat‑assessment team that evaluates concerning behaviors, School Guard rapid emergency communication on staff phones, visitor management and surveillance systems, and an effort to centralize communications via ParentSquare so classroom, athletics and district messages are archived.
The superintendent framed the work as ongoing: the district will continue to refine restorative discipline, expand health and wellness supports, and strengthen partnerships. He invited patrons and board members to direct individual questions to him or building leaders outside the meeting.
The board took no formal vote on the report; it was presented for information and to solicit questions from patrons and the board.
