Greenfield Cemetery Trustees set 2026 goals; weigh ground-penetrating radar and $10,000 steps at Whittemore

The Town of Greenfield Cemetery Board of Trustees met May 13, 2026, approved the April 9 minutes and set goals for the 2026 season, including revised visiting hours, inspection planning and cemetery improvements.

In Old Business the trustees agreed to revise the cemeteries’ visiting hours and to add signage reflecting those changes. They also discussed using ground‑penetrating radar (GPR) to verify that potentially abandoned lots do not contain human remains and said they would focus GPR work on lots with the fewest surface improvements. The trustees discussed creating a pollinator garden between both Greenvale gates and noted the Conservation Commission will be installing gardens on Saturday; trustees plan to coordinate options with that commission.
The trustees discussed cleanup and signage for the Fletcher/Savage Cemetery and noted the cemetery fund balance listed in the minutes as more than $6,000. The minutes record a directive to contact Jim Morris by text to arrange a review of Fletcher/Savage Cemetery.
Trustees recorded multiple action items and task assignments. Jim Fletcher was directed to take photographs of Meetinghouse, Greenvale, Shea Knight, Fletcher/Savage and Whittemore cemeteries and to seek historic photographs from the historical society. The trustees planned to meet with the historical society the next evening at 7:00 p.m., draft a Greenvale history outline, and acquire drone imagery. Fletcher was also asked to check with Andre Wood and/or Frank Shea regarding follow-up items.
The trustees sketched an outline for historical materials—covering trustee responsibilities, cemetery origins, stories of those interred and phases of Greenvale—and noted a Chronicle software access/demo. On scheduling, a motion to meet again on Monday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m. passed (recorded "all in favor").
