Library to close some dates for lack of coverage; director invited to national convening

Ella Cademartori, the Stephenson Memorial Library director, told trustees April 23 that the library will close on some days when she is away for work because of insufficient staff coverage. The dates the director cited were May 27 and June 9–12.
Cademartori said she was invited to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) “LIBRARY CONVENING 250: TELLING AMERICA’S STORY” in Washington, D.C., June 9–12 and that IMLS would cover her expenses. She stated she planned to attend “unless the Trustees prefer I forgo it.” Trustees did not record a formal vote in the minutes about authorizing travel; the statement appears as part of the Director’s report.
The Director also listed upcoming programming and outreach events through the summer and fall, including story- and author-based programs and community events such as Greenfield’s First Sparkler Sprint 5K (July 4) and a Master Gardener seed-saving program (May 30). Those event items were presented for scheduling and publicity rather than for board action.
The minutes note staff and volunteer planning (Mother’s Day Tea, Fantasy Day, holiday programming) and a request to coordinate event planning with the Friends of the Library. No personnel hires or formal coverage plans were recorded in the minutes beyond the announced closures.
