Mel Harmon, outreach manager and member of the youth team at Rivers of Hope, addressed the council on Aug. 12 to describe the agency's work supporting victims of domestic violence and to encourage local awareness and referrals.
Harmon said Rivers of Hope provides advocacy, education and interagency support across Wright and Sherburne counties and that Montrose-specific services in 2023 included 13 adults and five youth. She urged residents and local organizations to share information about free services and to provide safe spaces for people in crisis to seek help.
Harmon also outlined the agency's youth programming and upcoming fundraising events, including a fall fundraiser and the organization's annual gala in April. Council members thanked Rivers of Hope for the presentation and said staff would make outreach materials available at city locations.
The presentation was informational; no council action was required.
