At the Aug. 12 meeting the Montrose fire department reported it had been awarded a FY2023 FEMA grant of $177,622 to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) packs.
Fire department staff explained the award covered 14 packs but the department needs 18; to avoid leaving funds unused the department plans to purchase four additional packs. The grant requires a 5% local match, which staff estimated at roughly $8,458. The city will identify funding — likely from capital improvement reserves — to cover the match and any bank-financing costs not covered by the grant.
Fire staff thanked the grant writer for securing the award and said the equipment will improve firefighter safety. Council asked a few clarifying questions about cost and implementation timing; no further action was required other than coordinating payment and procurement.
