Two newly elected members took the oath of office at the Vermillion School District 13‑1 meeting on July 13.
Phil Terwilliger stood at the podium and swore: “I, Phil Terwilliger, do solemnly swear to support the constitution of The United States and the constitution of the state of South Dakota. I swear to faithfully and impartially perform my duties as a member of the school board of Vermillion School District number 13‑1… to the best of my ability.” Shortly afterward Ryan Johnson repeated a comparable oath and filed his signed oath for the district records.
After the oaths, superintendent Damon Alvey called for nominations for board president. Rachel Olsen was nominated, and the board approved her as president by voice vote. The board then nominated Jacob Skelton for vice president; the motion carried by voice vote.
Board members and administrators welcomed the newly seated members and adjusted seating and committee assignments for the 2026–27 year. The board then continued with annual appointments and business.
