Board approves routine invoices, grants and authorizes lease LOI for Progress Park

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors approved a series of routine and administrative actions at its June 30 meeting, including payments, grant acceptances, budget amendments and an authorized letter of intent for real estate in Progress Park.

The board approved payment of the invoices packet after a motion by Mr. Terry and second by Mr. Morgan. Minutes from the June 9 meeting were approved as presented. Consent calendar items were adopted by roll call.

Budget and grant items approved included acceptance of a Virginia opioid-abatement grant (already included in the budget), two Virginia Tourism Corporation marketing grants (requests to amend and appropriate $10,000 and $15,000 into FY27 for Independence Day and downtown events), and multiple targeted transfers and appropriations: a $3,000,000 transfer back from the water operating fund to the general fund (loan closed), $761,107 appropriated into school instruction for state-directed bonuses and Medicaid funding, a $43,204 transfer to correct an accounting deduction, and smaller appropriations to cover a $0.41 overage for Whitfield Community College and $1,500 for lodging costs related to a Treasure Association payment.

The board also approved an extension of the Blue Line Solutions contract at the sheriff's request and received a clean audit report from the auditor of public accounts (clerk of circuit court). After convening a closed session under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act to discuss acquisition/disposition of real property in the East Whitfield and Fort Chiswell districts, the board certified compliance with the Act and authorized the county administrator to execute a letter of intent for a potential lease with an option to purchase property in Progress Park.

Votes: motions described above were carried by roll call during the meeting. The meeting then moved to a planned site tour of the dispatch center and a connector road.
