Board member warns Dyer Construction isn’t securing Sandy Ridge site; staff says contractor asked to close fencing nightly

A board member raised safety concerns July 15 about the Sandy Ridge construction site, saying Dyer Construction had not been securing fencing and that heavy equipment on the street posed a danger to local children.
"My concern is that Dyer Construction is not securing the site properly," the member said, citing a 7‑year‑old in the neighborhood and the attraction of heavy equipment. The member said they had taken photographs and asked for the fence to be closed each night and for the street to be swept.
Brian, the stormwater director, confirmed he sent the same message to Dyer Construction and said he expected the contractor to address nightly fencing and street sweeping. He asked staff to follow up so the site would be secured.
Joe noted Sandy Ridge construction coordination remains on hold while the town works with NIPSCO on the new service line and the associated pump-station work; the board stressed the contractor should secure the site while those utility and construction issues are resolved.
The board did not take a formal vote on the matter; staff said they would continue to press the contractor to secure the site and will report back.
