The Village of Jemez Springs Planning and Zoning Commission discussed site-specific drainage concerns at the Faulkner steep-slope property after a June 22 site visit and heard a chair’s report about a Village Council special meeting related to a BIA appeal.
Commissioners Betsy Daub, Fred Simmank, Susanna Cooper and Talia Michelle visited the Mooney Road property on June 22. The group observed water drainage issues and discussed the need to account for drainage management when the Faulkner steep-slope application is next presented to the commission.
During the Chair report, the commission recorded that the Village Council held a special meeting regarding the BIA appeal and that the Jemez Pueblo asked the Village to drop the appeal because it could delay the Pueblo’s ability to move forward with certain projects. Commissioners Rose Fenton and Fred Simmank also reported on the July 15 Village Council meeting.
Other administrative items recorded in the minutes included updates that River Walk funds remain available though no activity was reported, ongoing work at the Jemez Springs Community Park related to a new village office, and that Talia Michelle will attend the Village Trustees meeting on Aug. 20 as the Planning & Zoning representative. The commission postponed its Village Code Review and scheduled a Code Review Workshop for Aug. 8, 2024; commissioners were instructed to read Article 4 up to section 130-24 prior to that workshop. The next Planning & Zoning meeting was set for Aug. 22.
The minutes do not record any formal action or vote on the Faulkner property during this meeting; they note discussion and situational awareness in preparation for a future application hearing.
