Allen Walraven, speaking for the Farmer’s Mutual Ditch Association, asked the Kirtland Town Council to reconsider a $100,000 contribution to pipe a local ditch, saying a prior council had agreed to support piping work in 2018. Walraven described who and where the ditch serves, the remaining project costs, and estimated the work would take about four years to complete.
Councilors asked about current association funding and potential grants to offset costs. Mayor Alex Uhl said the council would revisit the request annually during the town’s budget planning process and did not commit town funds at the Jan. 14 meeting.
No motion to approve funding was made. Councilors and staff asked for additional information—grant status, remaining project scope, and phased timelines—before making any financial commitment.
The request was recorded for future budget consideration and will be brought back during the next budget cycle for decision-making.
