Engineer estimates Kirtland splash pad at about $1.78 million; council asks for lower-cost quote

Engineer Dan Flack told the Kirtland Town Council on Oct. 8 that the estimated cost for a splash pad project — including a recirculation system and all necessary features — was about $1.78 million.
Flack said Exerplay is the CES company the town used to bid the project and that only one firm in the state could complete the full recirculating design. Councilors discussed whether a nonrecirculating system would reduce the project’s total cost and reduce load on the sewer line, and they asked Flack to obtain a different quote that excludes a recirculation system.
Councilor Trujillo asked whether there were other bidders; Flack said he would try to obtain another quote. The council did not take funding action on the splash pad at this meeting; the estimate was presented for council review and future budget consideration.
Next steps: the engineer will return with a revised cost estimate that excludes a recirculation system and clarifies bidder availability and projected water-usage costs.
