Cloud Lake officials begin process to post No Trespassing signs at the Preserve amid encampment concerns; ratification to follow
Summary
Town staff will begin coordinating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to place No Trespassing signs at the Preserve so deputies can remove people camping there; the action will be placed on the March agenda for formal ratification because the Feb. 12 meeting lacked a quorum.

Vice Mayor Marion Chateau-Flagg and Councilmember Kathleen Hoock discussed steps to address an ongoing encampment at the Town Preserve and authorized staff to start coordinating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to install No Trespassing signage.
The council received an email update from PBSO (D/S Jason Ekstrom was unable to attend), and Clerk Dorothy Gravelin summarized the department’s recommendation that the town post No Trespassing signs so deputies can remove trespassers without a town official present. Gravelin described the sign specifics: the signs would read "Town of Cloud Lake" in 2" letters and include an Owner Applied Number (OAN) recorded in PBSO’s Business Partnership Program.
Gravelin said the clerk was authorized to contact PBSO to begin the process and, if PBSO approves, to contact Kauff’s Signs and Lettering to purchase and install the signs. “The sign will have the Town of Cloud Lake in 2” letters and an Owner Applied Number (OAN) underneath,” Gravelin said. Councilmember Kathleen Hoock volunteered to serve as the After-Hours Contact and Vice Mayor Chateau-Flagg offered to be the Additional Contact for the program.
Because the Feb. 12 meeting did not have a quorum, Town Attorney William P. Doney advised the council to place the item on the March 12 agenda for ratification rather than completing a formal vote at the Feb. 12 meeting. The matter remains a direction to staff pending formal action at the next meeting.
Next steps: staff will initiate the PBSO partnership process and bring the sign purchase and installation, and the formal authorization of the After-Hours and Additional contacts, to the March agenda for a ratification vote.
