Elections staff updated the commissioners on a state election audit and the office's corrective work.
Miss Garcia reported the office adopted a policy manual in November and has corrected precinct assignments that were mixed between even and odd routes. Staff investigated duplicate registrations by matching birthdays and names and corrected the voter rolls. She told the court the state audit team came in, reviewed records and photos, and the office expects to receive results by the end of the month.
During the update, commissioners asked whether inspectors had been present in the field; staff said the state performed record checks and may follow up. The court directed elections staff to bring the audit results back to commissioners and to present any deficiencies and proposed corrective actions.
Representative quote: "We fixed the precincts and we're hoping to get results from the audit by the end of this month," said Miss Garcia.
Next steps: elections staff will return to the commissioners' court with the audit report and recommended corrective actions if deficiencies are identified.
