River Ridge terminates Laz’s Lawn Service, hires GulfScapes at $58,500

During the Nov. 19 meeting, the board considered terminating the landscape service agreement with Laz’s Lawn Service, Inc., because of performance concerns and to engage GulfScapes Landscape Maintenance Services as the new contractor.
Cleo Adams, district manager, explained GulfScapes’ proposal totaled $58,500, which is approximately $13,000 more than the board’s $45,000 budget for landscape services. The minutes note GreenScapes was not an option because it refused to execute the CDD’s contract. The board discussed using withheld payments from Laz’s Lawn Service and unassigned funds to offset the additional cost and to cover required plant replacement expenses.
On motion by Kurt Blumenthal, seconded by Bob Schultz, and with all in favor, the board authorized termination of Laz’s Lawn Service and engaged GulfScapes effective immediately. The motion directs management to effect the termination and contract transition.
Next steps: management will execute the GulfScapes contract, apply withheld funds to offset costs where appropriate and monitor the vendor transition and performance.
