Commission approves roof and gutter replacement at Riter Boyer House

At its June 8, 2026 meeting, the West Whiteland Historical Commission approved a proposal to replace the roof and gutter system at the historic Riter Boyer House, 164 (designated HR) at 350 W. Boot Rd. Planner Patrick Gorman introduced the item; applicant Palmer Delaney of Pro Edge Roofing said the cedar and asphalt sections of the roof are in significant disrepair and need replacement and noted the property is his childhood home.
Delaney told the commission the cedar portion will be replaced with bronze standing-seam metal formed on site, while the asphalt portion will be replaced in kind. He said the chimney will be repointed where needed, aluminum wrap on the cornice will be removed, and half-round hung gutters and downspouts will be installed per historic consultant recommendation. Carol Quigley, the Township’s historic consultant, had advised on details and recommended half-round hung gutters.
The Commission approved the work conditionally and required the applicant to provide staff with an updated plan that includes roofing details with measurements, flashing consistent with the new roof, confirmation that no cornice wrapping will be done, chimney repointing plans, and the specified gutters. There was no public comment on the project. The motion passed 3–0 (mover: Joshua Anderson; second: Sara DiPaolo).
