Council adopts driveway-width zoning changes, signs multiple administrative resolutions and appoints two council members

The Airway Heights City Council adopted final ordinance language that alters driveway-width requirements in both neighborhood‑family residential and multifamily residential zones, and it unanimously approved several administrative resolutions and two council appointments during the May 5 meeting.
Planning Director Heather Trautman explained the ordinance language adopted on final reading: the driveway approach will remain 16 feet wide at the curb but may taper to a minimum 12‑foot driveway for up to 150 feet of depth where the driveway serves no more than four dwelling units. Trautman said the 150‑foot depth is derived from fire‑apparatus access standards and that the language matches public works and fire department safety considerations. The council approved the ordinances by voice vote, 6‑0.
Council also adopted a set of administrative resolutions, all by unanimous votes: a 3% flat credit‑card fee for most card transactions (Resolution 2025‑008), a change‑order policy allowing staff to approve change orders up to the contingency amount on a contract (2025‑009), updated cash‑drawer and petty‑cash limits (2025‑010), a waiver of competitive bidding to permit acquisition of police vehicles under special market conditions (2025‑012), and updated right‑of‑way procedures (2025‑013). City Clerk/Finance staff explained these items had been briefed at last week’s study session.
After an executive session on candidate qualifications, council appointed William Campbell to fill Position 3 and named Jesse Camacho to fill the other vacancy; both appointments are effective once each appointee completes statutory onboarding requirements. City Attorney Gibbons told Campbell there are several required steps, including posting a bond, and City Manager Albert Tripp said staff would email filing and election‑calendar information to applicants. Tripp reminded prospective candidates about the limited filing window for the November ballot.
No public comments were offered and a planned HEAR grant presentation was deferred to a future study session. The council adjourned at 6:31 p.m.
