Jerry Griffith, Water Superintendent for the Big Bear City Community Services District, informed the board on Aug. 19 that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), specifically a PFHxS notification-level exceedance, were detected in Well 9. Griffith said Well 9 is currently in limited operation for emergency use only and explained that the district must inform governing bodies for areas served by the district when Notification Levels are exceeded.
Mr. Griffith answered questions from the board; the minutes record that public comment was heard but do not describe follow-up actions or test results beyond the exceedance and the well's limited status. No formal board action on the matter was recorded at the meeting.
