Brown County approves zoning and subdivision ordinance amendments; multiple routine contracts cleared

The Brown County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved amendments to county zoning and subdivision rules and authorized routine contracts included in the meeting packet.

At the meeting the board read and approved Ordinance 2‑28 (rezoning certain properties filed by petitioners including Carol Gage) on first reading. It then approved Ordinance 2‑29, which adjusts Title 4 zoning jurisdiction provisions, and Ordinance 3‑30, which amends subdivision regulations (Chapter 5.01). Speaker 4 read the ordinances aloud; with no members of the public speaking to the items the board voted to approve each item. The record notes an abstention for Gage on one vote.

The board also approved the Department of Health 2027 contract included in the meeting packet and authorized the chair to sign. Other routine items approved included the July 7 minutes, claims and payroll, the HR report, a lease agreement, and a county lottery permit.

Chair motions were recorded for each action (for example, a motion to approve Ordinance 2‑28 was recorded as "Motion by Dinger, 2nd by Diner" and called for the ayes). The meeting returned from an executive session with no action taken and later formally postponed action on one entertainment booking services contract (see other coverage).

Why it matters: The ordinances adjust local zoning and subdivision jurisdictional language that governs which unincorporated and incorporated areas fall under county zoning rules; the Department of Health contract and routine approvals keep county operations and services funded and compliant with administrative requirements.

What’s next: The Fran Romeo booking services contract was postponed until next Tuesday; the board did not otherwise table ordinance work and handled the items as first reading/approval consistent with standard county procedures.
