The Edgecombe County Board of Education approved several routine and substantive items during the meeting, including minutes, policy updates, grant applications and a major budget amendment.
The board voted to approve the January 13, 2025 open-session minutes by voice vote. In committee reports, staff presented revised policy updates and a new policy (51-150) for first reading on reporting to external agencies; the board moved and approved the first readings of revised policies by voice vote.
On the consent agenda the board approved field trips, extended-day activities and fundraisers, authorized submission of a federal NCDPI Title II, Part A grant application for $55,743.57, and accepted a $10,000 donation to Stocks Elementary School from WR Loan.
The board approved continued authorization for Princeville Elementary to operate under the restart model after a presenter summarized the school's progress in meeting expectations under that model.
Finance staff presented budget amendment #1 (DPI allotment revision number 71 and carryovers) and a revised total operating budget figure of $96,547,593. The board moved and approved the budget amendment by voice vote.
Later the board moved into closed session under North Carolina law for personnel, attorney-client privileged consultation and confidential student records. After returning to open session the board approved personnel management items and extracurricular activities addenda for winter and spring sports by voice votes, then adjourned.
