County budget staff presented the proposed 2027 budget for Consolidated Fire District 1 (CFD 1), saying it would increase the district's mill rate and add fire-rescue staff to stabilize response capacity.
Brooke, a county budget staff member, said the proposed CFD budget increases the district's mill rate by about 3.83 mills and that the staffing proposal would add six firefighters, three captains and one battalion chief to stabilize the consolidated workforce. Brooke described the resulting estimated maximum levy for CFD 1 as roughly 9.83 mills, up from figures in prior cycles presented in staff materials.
Commissioners asked whether the salary calculations assume hires begin Jan. 1; staff said hiring and recruitment would need to proceed quickly if the commission approves the budget so positions can be onboarded in the coming year. One commissioner noted the budget timing also enables CFD to apply for a PPE grant once the hires are in the district's budget.
Staff stressed that the CFD figures will be repeated at the evening business meeting and that commissioners can ask for additional detail before any formal authorization. No vote or final adoption of the CFD budget was recorded in the morning hearing transcript.
