Blanchester board approves personnel moves, Science of Reading stipends and two resignations

With Superintendent Randy Dunlap absent, Board President John Panetta presented the superintendent's recommendations and the board approved personnel actions for the 2024-25 school year at its Oct. 21 meeting.
The board approved numerous certified supplemental contracts and professional-development stipends tied to the district's Science of Reading work; listed stipend amounts included $1,200 and $400 for various staff members and $30 hourly pay for Title information-night events. The board also amended certain district math PD stipends (increasing several to $1,062) and approved a list of certified substitutes (Ian Darras, Brock Haines, Kellie Vilvens).
The board accepted the resignation of Paula White effective at the end of the 2024–25 contract year for the purpose of retirement and accepted the resignation of Putman nurse Jenni Frommling effective Oct. 25, 2024. Classified hires were approved (for example, Carrie Shelton as Putman special‑education aide and Bryce Jackson as MS cook); additional supplemental coaching contracts and volunteer assignments were authorized.
President Panetta presented these items in the superintendent's absence after the board received an email from Dunlap saying he would be unable to attend and authorizing Panetta to make the typical recommendations. Dunlap's email, included in the record, stated: "I will be unable to attend the Board meeting tonight, October21, 2024. As such I am giving a public notice that the Board president will make those recommendations typically done by me at tonight's meeting in order for the business of the Board to continue in my absence." The motion to approve the superintendent's business was made by Panetta and seconded by Kathy Gephart; all present voted to approve.
The board documented dock days for classified staff and approved several classified substitutes and volunteers. No controversial objections were recorded in the minutes.
