Coralville staff say initial rec center cost estimate delayed, will include options with and without competition pool

Sherri Proud updated the Coralville City Council on the recreation center design and cost estimate, saying that contractor Mortenson has asked for a few more days to complete an initial budget projection. "Mortenson needed a couple more days to work on the initial cost estimate, which will be presented on June 11 to the core team," Proud said.
Proud said staff are pursuing grant opportunities to fund environmental features of the project. She also told the council the cost estimate will be prepared in two versions: one that includes the competition pool and associated elements and one without, because the pool's inclusion is dependent on discussions with ICCSD. "We will produce estimates with and without the competition pool based upon uncertainty with ICCSD," Proud said.
City Administrator Kelly Hayworth added that she and Tim Oswald will meet with ICCSD representatives next week to discuss that issue. Proud also reported that the Park Commission had reviewed the schematic design of the project.
No formal decisions or votes were recorded on the rec center during the work session. The next procedural milestone for the cost estimate is the June 11 presentation to the project core team.
