Madison selectmen review porta-potty bids and ADA needs for beaches

At the April 28 meeting the Board of Selectmen reviewed two bids for portable restroom service at Madison beaches and park sites and directed staff to clarify details before awarding a contract.
The chair said two proposals had been received, from United Site Services and Clean Restroom Rentals, and described proposed placements at Kennett Park, Nichols, Memorial Beach, the boat ramp and the Historical Society site. Board members and residents discussed how many units to order and where accessible units were required.
"We should make sure we have ADA-compliant units at the foot of the lake and at other high-use spots," a selectman said. Board members discussed a configuration that would total nine units, including two handicap-accessible units, and asked vendors to reconfirm whether quoted prices were per unit and what one-time delivery fees covered.
Cost examples discussed included a vendor quote described in the meeting as $394 per month for two units (as presented in a vendor proposal) and a separate line showing $975 for five units per month in another estimate; the board asked staff to request updated, clarified bids showing per-unit monthly service, delivery/installation fees and ADA-compliant options.
The selectmen also asked the town administrator to confirm whether the Historical Society, ball fields and boat ramp were covered in prior arrangements and to check the schedule for Memorial Day deployment. No vendor was selected at the meeting; the board asked for clarified proposals and an inventory of existing units so it could confirm the total number of units and accessible coverage before making an award.
The discussion closed with board direction to: (1) ask vendors to specify per-unit pricing and ADA compliance; (2) confirm which sites the town already serves and whether the Historical Society or other groups have separate arrangements; and (3) return to the board with an updated recommendation.
