Council approves hybrid plan for JC Ballpark Field to support tournaments and practices

Assistant City Manager Abel Cloud Jr. said the hybrid model would “replace the permanent pitcher mound with portable mound, modify the grass infield to create regulation base paths for multiple age divisions and make the field available for both tournaments and team practices while maintaining its ability to host high quality events.” Council members asked about the time and work needed to remove the mound; staff said maintenance crews would attempt to have the field ready for an upcoming tournament and would continue to monitor field condition if the field is opened for regular practice use.
A council member moved to approve the hybrid approach and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said they will pursue reservation software to streamline field scheduling and will coordinate with maintenance staff to prepare the field for any near-term tournament requests.
