The Reidsville City Council approved expanding the downtown social district to seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., following a presentation and recommendation from the RDC/Main Street Advisory Board.
Chase Lemons, Main Street manager, told council the board favored option 3 in its packet—extending days and hours—because it helps recruit food and beverage businesses, increases foot traffic, and creates a simple schedule for enforcement and event organizers. “The board respectfully recommends that the city council consider amending the social district operating schedule to allow the operation 7 days per week from 10AM to 10PM,” Lemons said.
Council members asked whether other rules would change; Lemons said only the hours would change and existing rules and enrollment processes would remain the same. After a motion to extend the hours and a second, council approved the change by voice vote. Lemons reported minimal issues in the program’s first year and said registered participation and interest have grown.
Staff noted that a formal schedule change requires the appropriate review and approval processes; council’s approval moves the recommendation forward for administrative completion.
