Windsong residents ask city for help with tree lighting, propose family event on the Green

Residents from the Windsong neighborhood and other community members used the public-comment period at the April 14 Windy Hills council meeting to present event proposals and request limited city assistance.

Betsy Heck, president of the Windsong Neighborhood Association, provided a four-page 'Welcome to Windsong!' handout outlining neighborhood events and said the association draws strong community participation. James Young, the association vice president, asked whether the council would entertain providing assistance to place lights on the large neighborhood tree annually; residents said 60% of the neighborhood’s 67 homes pay $80 in dues to support activities.

Staci Farris (1116 Windsong Way) asked about blue markings recently appearing on sidewalks and said the pole previously used to wrap holiday lights "is too large to safely do so" now, asking for city support to apply lights safely. Councilman Steve Teaford said he would address the sidewalk-marking question during his report. Councilman Paul Morris noted he is working on youth engagement initiatives and looks forward to collaborating on family events.

Robbin Goodin (427 Deerfield Lane) proposed a 'Windy Hills Family Fun and Fiber Arts Afternoon' to be held on the Green and said a Public Safety Officer would be the only city resource needed; she recommended moving the date to a Sunday so attendees could use Brownsboro Center parking when most businesses are closed and said she would use Sign-Up Genius to recruit volunteers and donations.

The Mayor and council agreed to "discuss further" the requests; no formal commitments or city expenditures were made during the April 14 meeting.
