Woodland Hills commission approves routine finance items, appoints Tree Board member and authorizes $3,500 cleanup

Mayor Killeen presided over the City of Woodland Hills commission meeting on June 24, 2025, where the panel approved routine administrative items, appointed a new Tree Board member and authorized limited spending to clear vegetation at a neighborhood intersection.
City Clerk Lisa Baldwin presented the May minutes, which Commissioner Gillenwater moved to approve with one correction; Commissioner Hedden seconded and the motion carried. Treasurer Jones then presented warrants and the May financial report; commissioners approved the warrants and accepted the financial report after adjustments to a State Farm allocation and a change related to Sign-O-Rama.
The approvals were procedural and recorded as "motion carried" in the minutes; the document does not list individual vote tallies. Treasurer Jones also provided a property tax update, reporting that a few payments have been received and eight accounts remain unpaid.
On parks business, Mayor Killeen said the new playground is nearly installed though a few parts still must be ordered; the playground will be paid for this week and commissioners discussed purchasing mats for swing areas. Five candidates have been nominated to the Tree Board; Kristy Johnson stepped down and Commissioner De Villier moved to appoint Louis Herman to replace her. Commissioner Hedden seconded and the motion carried.
Commissioner Gillenwater reported on public safety, saying there have been relatively few parking violations in the past month and several domestic incidents that required Metro Police response; Officer Cummins shared that crime is rising in the area. Commissioner De Villier said he is preparing a recap video of Summerfest, and Commissioner Hedden described Summerfest as a success and announced a Back-to-School Scavenger Hunt and Social on Aug. 1 at 6:00 p.m.
On infrastructure, Mayor Killeen said he will meet with Donnie Miller of Louisville Paving to review sidewalks needing repair and possible extensions into the park. Killeen has also sought quotes to address a leaning sign at Evergreen and Marengo; Commissioner Hedden moved to allow Killeen to proceed with cleanup of that area not to exceed $3,500, Commissioner Gillenwater seconded and the motion carried.
Under other business the commission noted that Lumos installation is expected to be completed by the end of June. Mayor Killeen raised the idea of installing security cameras around the park and said he will research camera and internet options and report back at the July meeting.
Commissioner Hedden moved to adjourn at 8:35 p.m.; Commissioner Gillenwater seconded. The commission's next regular meeting is July 22, 2025.
