Ste. Genevieve City council members agreed to move forward with a contracted recruitment process to fill the city clerk position after a staff update on candidate screening.
A staff member told the council the recruiting firm provided three prescreened candidates and could supply additional candidates if the first group proved unsuitable. The staff member said the firm recommended pay ranges of roughly $15–$19 per hour for entry-level candidates and $18–$19 for more experienced applicants; council members warned that to attract qualified applicants the city might need to budget toward the higher end of that range.
Council debated interview logistics — whether to interview candidates together or in panels — and agreed it would be simpler to hold interviews on a single day and decide at the end of that session. The staff member said the city has funds set aside to pay the firm’s fee and that payment would be due 30 days after hiring; the mayor will receive recommended résumés and coordinate interview scheduling with council members.
A motion to proceed with the recruiter and the prescreening process was made, seconded and declared passed by the presiding official. Council clarified that while the mayor handles the hire process, council approval is required for contract decisions.
