Coralville board approves three temporary lawn-and-garden conditional-use permits

The Coralville Board of Adjustment on March 16 unanimously approved three conditional use permits allowing temporary, seasonal lawn-and-garden centers at Theisen’s, Walmart and Lowe’s, each limited to March through October 2026.
Community Development Director Dave Johnson told the board he had not received any written or electronic comments on the three proposals and that “the proposed area and layout as presented would not have an impact on safety or emergency access on site.” He recommended approval of each permit with the March–October 2026 time limit.
Chairperson Motley accepted a staff request to change the meeting order so applicants present could be heard earlier. The board approved the revised agenda 4-0. The board also approved the January 19, 2026 minutes by a 4-0 vote.
During each public hearing, no members of the public offered comments. After staff’s presentation, the board voted on each conditional use permit: Theisen’s (100 Westcor Dr.) was approved on a motion by Sitzman, seconded by Nicola; Walmart (2801 Commerce Dr.) was approved on a motion by Nicola, seconded by Praska; and Lowe’s (2701 2nd St.) was approved on a motion by Sitzman, seconded by Praska. Each motion carried 4-0.
