The Worthington Hills City Commission on Feb. 17 approved an ordinance increasing commissioners’ monthly compensation from $400 to $500, beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
Mayor Robert Stoneham read the full ordinance language during the meeting, saying, “Section 1, the commissioner shall be paid the sum of $500 each month during the term of their office.” After a motion and second, the commission conducted a roll-call vote; the ordinance was approved.
The mayor noted the city will post the certified summary of the ordinance on the city website in lieu of the paper publication previously required by statute. He referenced Kentucky Revised Statute KRS 132.027 when describing the property-assessment timetable that informs the tax and budget process.
Commissioners and staff gave no substantive amendments during the reading; the mayor framed the change as part of the city’s regular budget and compensation review. The ordinance text states the amendment revises Ordinance Number 6, Series 2023 and becomes effective on Jan. 1, 2027, once properly signed and published as required by law.
The commission also discussed the city’s broader FY2027 budget message during the same meeting, with the mayor warning that limited revenue sources and rising costs will require careful fiscal choices. The commission did not revisit commissioner pay again at the meeting; the ordinance passed as read and will be posted per the new publication guidance.
The commission adjourned at about 8:28 p.m.
