Parks commission to launch adult volleyball league, recaps Company Cup kickball

Wade said the department has received interest in other adult sports, including volleyball, softball and flag football, and confirmed the planned volleyball format will be scheduled so it does not conflict with other programs. She also summarized a coach's slow‑pitch softball tournament that featured regional combined teams and said the department plans to continue offering similar events.
Wade reported that spring youth baseball, softball and tee‑ball seasons have moved into tournament play. She described two tournament tracks: an internal tournament open to all interested players and an external RAYBA/RAYSA tournament that volunteer coaches may enter teams into. Commission member Brittany Crigler described a new regional "all‑star" approach under which coaches are responsible for creating teams and ordering uniforms; Victor Morales, Director of Parks and Recreation, added that volunteers who want the all‑star experience are still given the opportunity to participate beyond recreation play.
Wade and Morales also recapped the first annual Company Cup Kickball one‑day tournament, which accepted donations to support youth sports while serving as an economic‑development and talent‑retention event for local businesses. Participating organizations included Bank of Botetourt, Eldor, Lawrence, Munters, BOCO Chamber, BOCO county, Roanoke Cement and Altec, with Altec winning the tournament. Morales said more than 100 county employees took part and that feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
On facilities, Victor Morales reported that materials for the Soccer Field Lighting Project have arrived on site and that installation work will begin in June. Wade added that fall sports registration is open and that current recreation programs are meeting expectations.
The commission heard these program updates as part of its routine business; no formal vote was required on the athletics or event items.
