At the Aug. 25 workshop meeting the Town Board approved a slate of personnel and finance items, and recorded an inconsistency in the minutes related to a Justice Court hiring.
Finance: The board voted to approve the audit in the amount of $533,775.23 by unanimous vote of members present (4–0, 1 absent).
Hiring and personnel: The board approved hiring Michael Paccione and Constantino Desousa as full‑time custodial workers in Buildings and Grounds (both are existing town employees in other departments) with proposed start dates on or after Sept. 1, 2025; motions passed 4–0 with one absence. Town Clerk Lisa M. Vance Ayers requested and the board approved hiring Barbara Fields as a part‑time clerk at $20.00/hour, position funded in the 2025 Town Clerk budget, start date on or after Sept. 8, 2025.
Justice Court vacancy: Town Justice Jude Martini explained the court clerk vacancy following the resignation of Christopher Slingerland and said seven applicants were interviewed and that the judge had selected Jack R. Baroch, pending paperwork, testing and fingerprinting, at a rate of $25.5095/hour with a start date on or after Sept. 8, 2025. The minutes record, however, a motion "to approve the hiring Christopher Slingerland for the Court Clerk position," which conflicts with the judge's statement and with the notation of the vacancy. This inconsistency is recorded in the minutes and requires clarification from town staff; the board recorded the motion as passing 4–0 with one absence.
Animal control and insurance: Animal Control requested authorization to use account 5144 to pay four veterinarian invoices from Flannery Animal Hospital totaling $328.75 across four items; each invoice payment was approved. Supervisor Gil Piaquadio sought and the board approved purchase of terrorism insurance with a premium of $4,777.00 effective July 1, 2025.
All listed motions passed with four votes in favor and one member absent. The minutes do not resolve the Court Clerk name discrepancy; the appointment should be clarified in subsequent records.
