Airway Heights council approves water and sewer upgrades, adopts rate amendments

Airway Heights City Council voted on a package of utility and administrative items at its meeting, approving upgrades to the city’s water and sewer telemetry and SCADA systems, authorizing an emergency backup generator for Public Works telemetry, and approving new meter-reading hardware and software.
Council also appointed Kimberly Peckrell to the city’s Arts Commission and approved a pair of rate-amendment resolutions: the sewer rate amendment passed unanimously and the water rate amendment passed on a 6–1 vote. Clerk Treasurer Stanley Schubert said the rate amendments were intended to clarify the basis for rates and to define an ERU to allow flexible application across customer classes.
Public Works Director Dennis Fuller told the council the existing telemetry and SCADA software is unsupported by the vendor, creating reliability risk, and recommended modernization. He called the backup power device a necessary feature to keep telemetry running during outages; council approved a natural‑gas generator rather than solar. Fuller also said the meter upgrade is backward‑compatible with existing equipment and required to support new meters the city is installing.
Police Chief Bridal Richmond used his report to note personnel gains: “Asia Henderson is due to start, February 17, and … Will Lohman is due to start, February 24,” and thanked the community and partners for support in recent drug- and weapons‑recovery efforts.
