Lancaster Library reports flood, files insurance claim; furnace replacement options under review

Barbara Robarts, Lancaster librarian, told the Select Board on March 17 that the library suffered a "major flood a week or so ago due to the catch basin that was plugged." She said Primex has been notified and a claim has been filed; the deductible is $1,000.
Robarts said the library sought contractors for a complete furnace replacement but has been unable to secure a firm commitment; the earlier quote for full replacement is no longer valid and she believes the library may be able to proceed by replacing the burner only. Selectman Kathy-Jean Lavoie asked how old the furnace was; Robarts said she believes it was installed in 1998. Selectman Leon Rideout recommended contacting the original bidder to confirm whether they will honor the prior quote.
Next steps: Library trustees and town staff will determine whether to pursue the original full-replacement bid, replace the burner, or seek new bids; the insurance claim process will proceed through Primex.
