Lynnwood proclaims July Park & Recreation Month and ADA Awareness Day; community groups highlight inclusive programs

The Lynnwood City Council used the July 13 meeting to recognize community programs and partnerships.
Mayor George Hurst proclaimed July as Park and Recreation Month in Lynnwood and read a congratulatory letter from the Washington State Department of Ecology recognizing the Lynnwood wastewater treatment plant’s 2025 outstanding performance. Council and staff invited park volunteers and local partners forward to receive the proclamation.
Council President Nick Coelho and other councilmembers then proclaimed July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness Day. Community representatives from the Rotary Challenge Race, Work Opportunities (Carrie Morehouse), Community Transit (Molly and Allison) and Volunteers of America described inclusive events, partnership numbers (the Rotary event typically attracts about 50–60 participating children and 7–9 trained drivers), and the transit agency’s focus on accessibility beyond regulatory compliance.
Speakers thanked the city for partnership and noted outreach and opportunities to expand inclusive programming in Lynnwood.
