Lancaster department heads report steady operations; library may seek up to $35,000 for boiler replacement

Several department heads updated the Select Board on Feb. 18 in Lancaster, reporting routine operations and some capital needs.
Police Chief Jon Woodworth provided year-to-date call statistics and cruiser mileage figures. Fire Chief Randy Flynn gave his department's call statistics, ambulance mileage, confirmed all Fire and EMS apparatus are operational, and reported revenues are up $60,000 compared with January 2024.
Rusty Scott from the transfer station said the DERA grant has been signed by the governor and that the facility expects a new loader to arrive next week; he also noted the replacement recyclable bags are more durable than the previous orange bags, though some residents had been overfilling the old bags.
Librarian Barbara Robarts told the board the library's boiler will need replacement before the next heating season. She said the Select Board is authorized in an emergency to expend from the capital reserve fund and that she may request a vote to use up to $35,000; she is collecting quotes and will provide detailed cost information to the board.
