Hope-Page School Board approves HQIM grant amendment, contract changes and routine finances

The Hope-Page Public School District 85 board met Jan. 10, 2024, at Hope-Page High School and approved a budget amendment to accept a High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) grant for the 2023–24 school year, contract amendments to add class periods for two staff members, and routine consent items including the monthly check listing.
The votes were unanimous on recorded motions. Cindy Hiam moved and Eric Parkman seconded approval of the agenda; the motion, like subsequent motions to approve minutes and bills, passed with board members Eric Parkman, Cindy Hiam, Rita Kainz, John Ihry, Luke Juliuson, Janee Brendemuhl and Jeri Anne Larck recorded in favor. The board approved the December 13, 2023 regular meeting minutes, the December 14, 2023 special meeting minutes, and the December 2023/January 2024 check listings for the General Fund, Food Service and Activity accounts.
The board approved a series of satisfactory ratings in the business manager's evaluation. Individually moved and seconded motions granted a satisfactory rating under categories including Coordinating Board Meeting, Overseeing District Finances, Risk Management and Personnel Management; each motion passed unanimously.
On the budget amendment, the board approved accepting the HQIM grant for the 2023–24 school year. The meeting record does not specify the grant dollar amount. The board also approved contract amendments for Austin Dvirnak and Sarah Wendt to add additional class periods; Cindy Hiam moved the contract amendments and Eric Parkman seconded the motion.
The board authorized the Dec. 31, 2023 pledge of securities for Dakota Heritage Bank and Hometown Community Bank; Luke Juliuson moved and Cindy Hiam seconded that motion, which passed unanimously.
Secondary Principal and Superintendent Ian Grande and Elementary Principal and Assistant Superintendent Heidi Kingston presented on Cognia accreditation and school improvement committees. The board noted a negotiations seminar scheduled for Feb. 1–2 at Bismarck State College and a school carnival on March 8 in Page; the board will serve the meal at the carnival. No patrons spoke during the public participation period.
With no further business, Cindy Hiam moved and Rita Kainz seconded to adjourn at 7:17 p.m.; the motion carried unanimously.
