Hope-Page board approves Choice Ready grant budget amendment, adopts amended 2024–25 calendar and sets June election

The Hope-Page Public School District 85 Board on Feb. 14 unanimously approved a budget amendment to incorporate the Choice Ready grant, adopted the district’s 2024–25 calendar (Option 4) with an amendment moving a February teacher comp day, and scheduled the school board election for June 11, 2024.

The Choice Ready grant budget amendment was moved by Cindy Hiam and seconded by Eric Parkman and carried on a unanimous roll-call vote of board members John Ihry, Janee Brendemuhl, Rita Kainz, Cindy Hiam, Eric Parkman and Jeri Anne Larck. The board recorded the motion as a formal budget amendment to add the grant to the district’s spending plan; the transcript does not specify the grant amount.

Calendar discussion featured competing proposals. Cindy Hiam moved to approve Option 3, but the motion failed for lack of a second. Eric Parkman then moved and Janee Brendemuhl seconded approval of Option 4. During discussion, board members noted feedback from elementary staff expressing concern about a three-day week in February; Parkman proposed an amendment to change the February 21 teacher comp day to Feb. 14. The board voted unanimously to adopt the amended Option 4 calendar.

The board also approved a motion—moved by Cindy Hiam and seconded by Eric Parkman—to set the school board election date for June 11, 2024; that motion carried unanimously. The meeting minutes record no dissenting votes on any of the new-business items recorded in these segments.

Other administrative items raised near the end of the meeting included a reminder that the superintendent evaluation is due Feb. 29 in the Rocky Mountain Evaluation Online System and that the board will serve the meal at the elementary school carnival on March 8, 2024.
