Walton council gives unanimous first readings to five ordinances, including Boone County plan goals and Spectrum franchise

The Common Council of the City of Walton, Kentucky, met Aug. 13, 2024, and voted unanimously on first readings of five ordinances affecting local planning, utilities and municipal policies.
At the meeting held at the Walton Senior Center, council members approved Ordinance 2024-10 on first reading to adopt the proposed goals and objectives of the Boone County Comprehensive Plan (Our Boone County – Plan 2045). Council member Amy Long moved to approve the ordinance; Matt Brown seconded. The roll call vote recorded unanimous support from Rose Beach, Amy Long, Matt Brown, Sherry Gaskill and Barb Farrow.
The council also approved on first reading Ordinance 2024-11, which authorizes the city to pursue a competitive, nonexclusive franchise for Spectrum Mid-America, LLC, d/b/a Charter Communications, to place and operate cable transmission and distribution facilities in public rights-of-way. Matt Brown moved the measure and Amy Long seconded; the vote was unanimous.
Two administrative-policy ordinances were advanced on first reading. Ordinance 2024-12 would add a new section to Chapter 36 establishing a travel policy for city employees and elected officials; Ordinance 2024-13 would adopt a policy governing the use of city-issued equipment and related property. Both measures were moved by Matt Brown and seconded by Rose Beach and received unanimous roll call approval.
Ordinance 2024-14, an amendment to Ordinance 2024-02 and Section 36.04 revising the city credit-card policy for employees, officers and elected officials, also passed its first reading. Barb Farrow moved the ordinance and Rose Beach seconded; the council voted 5–0 in favor.
Earlier in the meeting, Major Bill Mark delivered the sheriff’s department monthly report, Fire Chief Joey Vest read the fire department report, and Matt Bogen of Cardinal Engineering delivered the engineering report.
Mayor Terri Courtney thanked attendees for coming. The council adjourned at 9:14 p.m.
