Board hears treasurer’s report: $6.83M in general fund, $1.73M construction spending; superintendent reports inspections and repairs

The Washington County Board of Education received a treasurer’s report on Feb. 17 showing a general-fund balance of $6,831,799.64 and year-to-date construction spending of $1,734,622.73.
The treasurer outlined balances across district funds: Special Revenue $1,558,077.49; District Activity $164,747.88; Student Activity $187,606.28; Capital Outlay $321,329.87; Building $151,770.31; Construction $7,748,778.17; Debt Service ($121,688.58); Food Service $1,153,227.08; Day Care $614,544.08; Scholarship $5,087.22. The report also noted capital outlay receipts of $77,600 and state FSPK match funding of $323,452, plus property tax funding of $944,656 to offset debt service, and year-to-date debt service principal and interest payments of $1,238,026.27.
In the Superintendent's Report, Dr. Filiatreau Cochran told the board the Kentucky Department of Education conducted a bus inspection at the district bus garage and said she had met with U.S. Rep. James Comer to discuss federal funding and school nutrition advocacy. Dr. Cochran said schematic plans for district facilities were likely to be approved in the coming week, and she noted ongoing repairs: a water leak at NWES and pipe work on the band-room side at WCES/WCMS. She also addressed the recently announced SEEK shortfall and said the governor had indicated that the shortfall would be funded; the board will be updated when details are finalized. Finally, Dr. Cochran raised scheduling for WCHS graduation and potential make-up day scenarios ahead of forecasted inclement weather.
