Vivian Wills, chair, moved to explore sponsoring a townwide free event marking the U.S. 250th anniversary after reporting that Daniel Cournoyer had researched a Revolutionary War encampment for the Common; Dan seconded the motion and all members voted in favor. The motion directs the commission to pursue options but does not commit the commission to a final program or expenditure.
Gretchen Whitcomb, treasurer, reported that the Recreation Commission’s Revolving Fund balance is $6,076.76, with $38.47 in recent expenditures and a $103.00 deposit from Temple Mountain Music. The commission also updated its internal payment process: bills charged to the Town Recreation Budget must include an AP voucher, while bills paid from the Revolving Fund should be submitted without an AP voucher.
The commission previewed several upcoming summer activities. Daniel (Dan) Cournoyer created a poster for Cruise Night, which begins June 8; Jen Kiley said she will post the poster online. Commissioners discussed additional advertising for Trivia Night on June 14 and considered renaming the “Penny Scramble” at the Fourth of July celebration because pennies are no longer commonly used.
Commissioners discussed possible municipal uses for a new PA sound system to support town events and noted that no update was available on the Hildebrand Tennis Court or the Joe Cournoyer Playground. The commission approved a motion by Wills, seconded by Kiley, to allocate $400 for two banners — one for Temple Mountain Music and one for Halloween — with the vote recorded as unanimous among members present.
The commission approved the April 23 minutes as amended (motion by Daniel Cournoyer; second by Jen Kiley). The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. and adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
Next steps identified at the meeting include pursuing details for the Aug. 22 anniversary event, posting Cruise Night materials online, and placing the banner order.
