Chatham board accepts donations totaling six figures for programs and playgrounds

Board member (speaker 5) listed and moved acceptance of gifts that included: $750 from the Chatham JC’s to support the Chatham High School robotics team; $20,000 from the Lafayette Avenue PTO to purchase and install new playground equipment at Lafayette Avenue School; $13,922 from the Milton Avenue PTO for outdoor basketball hoops; $12,096.70 from the Performing Arts Boosters to purchase string instruments; and several contributions from the Charities Aid Foundation of America, including $73,928 designated to support K–12 literacy initiatives.
The board approved agenda items B1–B20 and addendum items B21–B28 as a consent package; the motion carried 6–0. Board members expressed gratitude to donors and noted these gifts will be used for program materials and capital improvements as specified by the donors.
Next steps: District staff will coordinate acceptance paperwork and project implementation (e.g., playground procurement and installation, instrument purchases) per district procurement and finance procedures.
