Dunmore fire chief reports training costs, AED maintenance and 84 calls in September

Chief DeNaples presented the fire department’s financial and operational update at the Oct. 13 meeting of Dunmore Borough Council.
He said one firefighter will attend structural-collapse training out of county next week; the hotel cost for that trip is $572.76 and additional travel/meal costs were expected. The department’s scheduled preventative maintenance and annual inspection for AEDs, portable suction units and pulse oximeters was listed at $700; DeNaples said one suction unit likely needs a new battery, which could add about $150.
The report showed 300 overtime hours were recorded during the reporting period. For Sept. 1–30, 2025, the department responded to 84 total calls: five fire-type calls, 17 rescue/EMS, 10 hazardous-conditions, 10 service calls, seven good-intent calls, 29 false alarms and five special incidents. DeNaples said new smoke detectors were received and residents may request free detectors through fire headquarters.
Council members thanked the department for first-aid and AED training at local sites and for coverage at youth sports events. The meeting also included a report that Wegmans donated an AED and youth CPR kit to Schautz; council suggested sending a formal thank-you.
